BRICKS prepares training programme on New European Bauhaus values for its pilot coalitions

How can we turn the values of the New European Bauhaus into concrete actions that benefit local communities? This is one of the questions at the heart of a new series of internal training sessions being organised by BRICKS for its five pilot coalitions in Aberdeen, Cluj-Napoca, Marseille, Tallinn and Valladolid. Following the first in-person consortium meeting in Milan, BRICKS partners identified the importance of building a shared understanding of the concepts and approaches that will guide the project, starting with the New European Bauhaus.

What is the New European Bauhaus?

The New European Bauhaus is a European Union initiative that brings together sustainability, inclusion and beauty to rethink how we live and shape our surroundings. It encourages communities, researchers, designers, businesses and public authorities to work together to create places that are environmentally responsible, accessible to all and enjoyable to live in.

These values are central to BRICKS, which aims to support community-led innovation and social entrepreneurship as drivers of positive neighbourhood transformation.

From shared knowledge to local action

Between October and December 2026, BRICKS is running a series of online training sessions giving a glimpse at  NEB values and principles and what they mean in practice, but also at the breadth of tools and platforms that support NEB projects. These include:

  • A broad introduction to NEB, delivered by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) served as a starting point to show the range of tools and platforms dedicated to NEB.
  • A presentation of NEB Junction, led by Climate KIC, inviting coalitions to use its portal, browse its knowledge base, and explore engagement opportunities.
  • NEB Compass, led by Politecnico di Milano.
  • NEB Investment Guidelines, led by Bocconi University.

The sessions will introduce the NEB's core values and guiding principles, explore practical examples and tools, and help pilot partners understand how to integrate these ideas into their local activities.

The programme will also encourage knowledge sharing within the pilot coalitions, helping ensure that all partners can contribute to developing solutions rooted in local needs and community participation.

What's next?

From January to April 2027, the training programme will continue with a second series of sessions dedicated to Social Entrepreneurship, led by Bocconi University. These will explore how socially driven initiatives can create lasting value for neighbourhoods and their communities.

In spring 2027, the training sessions will conclude with a series of workshops on the Research and Innovation Framework, to be delivered by TU Dortmund University. The workshops will provide a methodological basis for the pilot activities and be aligned with the values of the New European Bauhaus.
